Words of Buddha

“On life's journey faith is nourishment, virtuous deeds are a shelter, wisdom is the light by day and right mindfulness is the protection by night. If a man lives a pure life, nothing can destroy him.”

Allowing “Happiness”

24 of January 2010

People are searching for happiness. I hear it all the time. “As soon as this happens I will be happy.” This might be true, but for how long? You need to understand that happiness is your natural state of being.  It is the way you were born and the way you will die. We have forgotten this, and this is what must be rediscovered.

Anyone who knows me knows that I am not a fan of psychology. From what I have witnessed it often does more harm than good. This is not true in all cases but we tend to forget that this is a business. If you are cured you are no longer a patient. I am not against it, it does have it’s place. Caution is needed however.  Sigmund Freud stated that “Man is incapable of being happy.” This is a ridiculous and irresponsible statement made by a man who was a better politician than doctor. This is what creates a VICTIM MIND.

When we look at society Dr Freud did a good job of explaining his ideas. The norm in our world is anger and unhappiness. In fact if people see you being happy for no reason they question your sanity! If someone walks though a shopping mall alone, singing to themselves and dancing  everyone will stare at them like they are crazy! People will say “What is wrong with that guy!” However if you walk thought the same mall crying you will get sympathy and concern. Everyone will feel sorry because your life is hard, but no one will think you are nuts.

Sadness is not our nature. You need to quit believing the dogmas you are given and look inside to find the truth. Inside is the only place that truth can be found.  All emotions with the exception of happiness, joy and bliss are found in the PAST.  We are creatures of this moment, therefore anything other than happiness is unnatural.

If you want to be happy, really and truly happy, you must ALLOW it. You never become happy, you allow yourself to BE happy. Happiness and bliss are here, right now! And if the world thinks you are insane so be it! You will be in good company with all the others who are experiencing life the way it was meant to be, joyful.

“Happiness needs no cause. It is your simple nature, you are intrinsically happy. No cause, no purpose, no goal is needed. Life is in itself enough. It needs nothing else to complete it. It is complete! It is entire! It is already what it has to be. So there is no purpose in existence and no goal in existence. Existence is a sheer dance.”  Osho

Man needs a new consciousness

17 of January 2010

Man needs a new consciousness.

A short time ago there was a sever earthquake on the island of Haiti. It is all over the news and we are all aware of it.  I received an email today from someone who talked about all the things we are doing to our planet to destroy it. People we will never destroy this planet! But it might destroy us! There is a big difference here.

Why are there so many problems like this on our planet. No, it is not because bible, Mayan, or Nostradamus prophecies are coming true. These problems have nothing to do with superstition. It is because of all the horrible thinking patterns that man has.  Man is the single largest influence on our planet! We are the only beings that have a conscious mind and choose our own paths. Yet the choices that 99% of the planet are making are poor!

Thought is energy, as pure as it can possible get. Negative thinking creates negative energy. Positive thinking creates positive energy. This energy will influence our environment because we are the creators of reality.  This is just like the planets and the moon influencing our tides. What and how we think matters on a global scale, especially when there is so much negativity. Hate, jealousy, greed and corruption affect not only individuals, but the earth itself.

I know a lot of people, and I have never met anyone with negative thinking who is doing well and are happy.   Some are making decent money, but all of them have miserable lives.  The same it true for the positive people I know. They may or may not have money, but what is inside is strong and for the most part they are very happy people.  Life has it up and downs because it is supposed too.  But the better you think the greater the ups are.

Man needs a new consciousness….This does not come from religion, causes, government or anything other than oneself.  I know people of every religion you can think of and most of them are very unhappy.  In fact often the more religious, the more miserable the person. This is true of ’cause’ people. Look at the activists in Hollywood, they are all very unhappy! I won’t even get into politicians! Why is this? Because they are all looking for problems ‘out there’ and avoiding looking inside where the only real problems are.

Let all stop being distracted and get down to business. What is outside will only change when we change what is inside.  Am I saying you should not speak out, help the people of the world who are suffering and in need. No of course not. But you MUST fix yourself first. A preacher who is banging the pulpit calling people sinners while he is the worst one in the room solves nothing.  The only person you can truly help is yourself! Yet nobody understands this.

A long time ago I gave a beggar on the street $10 bucks to get something to eat. That was what he wanted, food. I happened to follow him as we went to the liquor store and purchased a bottle of wine.  His problem is not that he is poor, or that he lives on the street or the wine is drinks. The problem is the cause of these conditions. The problem is his HORRIBLE THINKING.

Albert Einstein said “A problem cannot be solved with the mind that created it.” Understand his words and you will understand why things are the way they are.

Imagine the return of a Christ, a Buddha, a Krishna or a Muhammad. What would the world view be? How much would things change in our society.  It would be the very same as it was then, there would be fear, doubt, aggression and possible crucifixion.

Truth is an interesting subject. No matter what kind of truth it is. When truth was found by great men and women in the past they were laughed at. When Galileo Galilei made his claims that the sun did not revolve around the earth he was at first laughed at, then he was forced by the Pope to retract his statements. Why? Because their authority was absolute, even though it was wrong.  Truth is first laughed at, then it is strongly apposed.

Many people who have spoken the truth have been put to death for these truths. Jesus was a example of this as was Socrates.  This continues today despite the fact that we think we are ‘evolved‘. In today’s world anyone who goes against the grain of society is still an outcast, even if we allow them to continue their speaking. Anyone in the ‘limelight’ is subject to much public scrutiny and ridicule for any actions or stands they take. We are not looking for good, we are looking for scandal. Why is this? We judge anything we don’t understand or feel threatened by. This must stop.

Judge not, lest ye be judged yourself” is a mantra of the various Christian churches,  who spend their time in judgment of others. Why do so many people not follow these words? Because they believe that their good actions can help them avoid judgment. They believe they are not responsible or accountable. What people don’t understand about these ‘words’ is that the ultimate judge is YOU. When you judge someone else, it is done by making judgment against yourself FIRST. Thus the reasons for your unhappiness and discontent.

This essay is being published on December 24th 2009, Christmas Eve. Let’s all decide, regardless of religious denomination to stop the self judging and start to accept the world as it is. Only when we stop our condemnation, develop our inner peace, can we make our world a better place. Only after this can we accept things, and begin to make changes. This day is a great place to start. We can all abandon the dogma that was created by politicians or the various religions and begin to understand what the great teachings are really about.

It is time to end our sleep and become awakened.

The Nature of Joy

17 of December 2009

silver-sunlit-clouds “Ecstasy is our very nature; not to be ecstatic is simply unnecessary. To be ecstatic is natural, spontaneous. It needs no effort to be ecstatic, it needs great effort to be miserable. That’s why you look to tired, because misery is really hard work; to maintain it is really difficult, because you are doing something against nature.” Osho

We have all hear the story about how many muscles it takes to smile vs the number it takes to frown. Yet we seem to insist on the doing the extra work of having a bad day.  Why? I am really not sure, I only know that changing this habit is a must.

A few days ago I had some difficulties with my car insurance. The rates have gone crazy. Now I could let these event dictate how I feel, and being human they did for a ‘short’ time, but I refocus on what is important and let the problem go to the universe.  One major difference, even in the short time that I was rather upset with the situation, when some asked how I was I always said I was doing great.

In more challenging times we need to look for reasons to feel better in the moment. My Mom used to tell me when I was a child that “every cloud had a silver lining“, this is so very true as their is good in any situation.

Because we are part of the universal energy that some people call god, or source it is our nature to feel bliss. This nature is overrun by the distractions we create for ourselves in this physical reality.  We need to learn to be grateful at all times. This is done by becoming quiet within and seeing the world as it really is.

To get yourself started simply make a list of the good things in your live. Try to write for about 10 minutes. You will be shocked when you see just how good things really are.

Be happy my friends!

The Beauty of Life

12 of December 2009

banff-morainelake “Once you have started seeing the beauty of life, ugliness starts disappearing. If you start looking at life with joy, sadness starts disappearing. You cannot have heaven and hell together, you can have only one. It is your choice.” – Osho

When I was a young child my parents took me with them to visit an old friend. This was a very nice family somewhere near Essex Ontario.  I was very young and only remember bits and pieces of these visits. The lady of the house had a tragedy in her life. She was diagnosed with bone cancer, in her jaw. The operation was successful removing the cancer, but she also lost her lower jaw (one side) in the surgery. The physical disfigurement was obvious and sever.

When I first saw her face I was frightened. The disfigurement was sever. However as she began to talk with me something happened. Her genuine warmth and loving nature came through her and the disfigurement began to go unnoticed. Her inner beauty came through. I recall this from being about 4 years old, that is how powerful it was.

I will always remember this lady, she pasted away 40 years or so ago, because the impression of beauty she left on me still remains.

As you look around your life and see the ugly, it is because of the opinion you have about it. It has little or nothing to do with the object or situation itself. Beauty is not in the eyes of the beholder, it is in their mind. There is beauty in every situation and object, but sometimes we need to look deep to find it.

Osho’s quote is very accurate. You cannot have heaven and hell together. In our dualistic world we have both the Garden of Eden and the Fires of Hell. The only hell that exists is the one we chose to make for ourselves.  Personally I chose to see the good and enjoy the bliss of Nirvana.

What this quote also means is that I have the choice of how I am going to feel each and every moment of the day. I will never chase happiness, I can’t because it is not running from me. I chose to BE HAPPY. I also realize that the circumstances and situations of the world around me have nothing to do with this choice. They are just part of the adventure along the way.

Be, do not Become

04 of December 2009

Osho8 Spiritual teacher Osho taught much from the teachings of Buddha. He believed that Buddha had many great truths, as did all the avatars, that people often missed. Here is one such teaching.

“All the Buddhas of all the ages have been telling you a very simple fact: Be — don’t try to become. Within these two words, be and becoming, your whole life is contained. Being is enlightenment, becoming is ignorance.”

“If you wish to see the truth, then hold no opinion for or against.”

We are all Buddha’s, Christ’s, or Krishna’s the problem is we cannot become something we already are.  We cannot be until we ‘awaken‘ and see the world for what is really is, illusions created by us.  Instead we go through our day to day existence, enjoying very little, because we believe the world is set in stone and cannot be changed, especially by us! Instead we become powerless victims.

Today we are so very fortune to have some great spiritual teachers living. The modern spiritual teacher is much different from the past, not as quiet or as formal. They don’t talk of religion or dogma they talk about awakening and understanding. They use terms like ‘source energy’ rather than god. Some of these teachers are Abraham Hicks, Bashar, Ramtha and the list goes on. Plus we are still fortunate to have the teaching of the other great spiritual leaders now departed from this earth, Osho be one.

The time has pasted for us to pretend to be something we are not and be who we are. As you do this you will witness your life transform. You will still do everything you are doing now, you will just see it differently.

A zen master was once asked what life is like on the path to enlightenment. He said “I get out of bed in the morning, eat, work, meditate and sleep.” He was then as what does enlightened being would do?  He relied “get out of bed in the morning, eat, work, meditate and sleep.”

You cannot become happy, you must be happy.
